WHITWORTH CEMETERY (#9)
also known as
DEATON or HARWELL
T26N R6E SEC 20
Map #3?
(listed as ‘Harwell’ on USGS map)

On the USGS map this is marked as HARWELL Cemetery, but locally is more commonly
known as the WHITWORTH cemetery. Elias Whitworth used to cross this hill on his way
to town, and always said this is where he wanted to be buried. While Elias was yet
living, a neighbor boy died and was actually the first to be buried here, but Mr.
Whitworth was the second. There are many more graves that no longer have legible
markers. Most of the cemetery is overgrown, except for where the FREER family are
buried, and their descendants keep that portion cleared.
