After a long illness, Mr. Christian Ewald died Mon. morning of dropsy. For the last 9 mos. Mr. Ewald has been in a sickbed enduring considerable pain. Despite the care of Drs. Simon and Luhmann, hope dwindled for the old man in his 86th yr. The funeral took place on Wed. at the Lutheran Cemetery in Newton and Pastor Pieper of the Lutheran Church delivered the funeral oration. The deceased came here in 1850 and settled in Town Newton where he remained until a few years ago when he moved to Town Rapids to live with his son John.
