Herbert C. Allen, 81, Stella, died at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept, 27, 2003, at his home, following a long illness.
Mr. Allen was born Jan. 13, 1922, in Hiwasse, Ark., and move to Missouri at the age of 4 residing in the Bulder City Community and graduated from Stella High School in 1939.
He joined the 203 Regiment of the National Guards, coast Artillery Anti Aircraft on July 30, 1940. He was inducted into Federal Service in September 1940 and served in Alaska, Aleutian Island and Europe
and was discharged in 1945. He was a self employed farmer, carpenter and construction worker and was a member of the Methodist Church.
He married Opal L. Ellis on June 22, 1947 at Columbus, Kan., and she survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter-in-law, Marlene Allen, Neosho; two sisters, Orva Meinke, Neosho and Flossie Smith, Diamond, two grandchildren, Joshua Dan Allen, Neosho, and Lori Beth Fell, Bearden, Ark., and two great-grandchildren, Christian and Mariah.
He is preceded in death by his son, Danny Allen; a brother, Laverne Allen and two sisters, Mary Reed and Nellie Johnson.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Hazelgreen Cemetery with the Rev. Gene Cole officiating.
Military services will be conducted at the graveside.,
Friends may call today from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday from 9 A.m. to 7 p.m. and the family will recieve friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
