Man, 73, Dies After County Auto Accident

Manitowoc- Emil Hackmann, 73, of Rt. 1, Manitowoc, who was involved in an automobile crash Monday, died Wednesday afternoon at Holy Family Hospital where he had been confined since the accident. A post-mortem examination disclosed that Hackmann was suffering from a kidney abscess and lobar pneumonia. Dr. Theodore Teitgen, county coroner, theorized that poisons in his body probably caused him to black out prior to the accident. His death was not considered a traffic fatality. County traffic police said Hackmann was involved in an accident while
driving alone on Highway 151 a mile west of English Lake about 11:45 a.m. Monday. His 1937 model car ran off the road and struck a culvert.

Funeral Saturday
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Newtonburg, with the Rev. A.T. Degner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Hackmann was born July 28, 1886, in the Town of Manitowoc Rapids, Manitowoc County, son of the late John and Louisa Puls Hackmann. He farmed his entire life on the homestead farm. Hackmann married the former Mary Liermann and she died Dec. 25, 1956. He was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and served as a trustee for three years. He was also treasurer of Silver Lake School District for many years. A brother and sister preceded him in death.

Family Survives
Survivors include three sons, Ruben and Kermit of Rt. 1, Manitowoc, and Arno on the home farm; a daughter, Mrs. Elroy Stauss of Rt. 3, Manitowoc, two sisters, Mrs. Herman Schuette, Rt. 1, Cleveland, and Mrs. Herman Ewald of Manitowoc, and six grandchildren.

Friends may call at Berge Funeral Home, Valders, after 5 p.m. Friday until noon Saturday when the casket will be removed to the church where the body may be viewed until the hour of service.
