He married Mary E. Davis on May 1,1861 in NH. He enlisted in the USN in 1863 in Portsmouth,NH and served as a fireman on the ironclad ship,USS Sassacus, which had been built in Portsmouth Navy Yard, Kittery, ME. Mary died in 1867, having had two children.
He married Emma WAyne in 1868 and they had 3 children, Josephine, Laurietta and Florentine. The latter married Edward Wright in 1897. There may have been a daughter Mary.
In 1890, he took his family to Montana where he founded the Great Falls Iron Works.
