Young Wife Passes Away
Death of Mrs. George L. Jaquis Occurs December 24
Mrs. George L. Jaquis died at her home near this city last Friday afternoon, Dec. 24, after an illness of only a few hours. Her demise was entirely unexpected and came as a terrible shock to the young husband, as well as to the entire locality, where the decease has resided practically all her life.
Mrs. Jaquis, whose maiden name was Una V. Hall, was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Hall, formerly residents of the Coster neighborhood, but who now live near Holland, Minn.
Deceased was born near Coster, Butler county, Iowa, and passed away at the untimely age of 21 years, 8 months and 6 days. She lived in Butler county continuously, with the exception of about eighteen months in South Dakota.
Her marriage to George L. Jaquis occurred here in Feb. 20, 1906, and to this union was born one son, who survives his mother. The little one is not quite two years old.
This is one of the saddest visitations of the grim reaper that The News has ever been called upon to chronicle. The passing of Mrs. Jaquis breaks up an ideal home and a singularly happy matrimonial companionship, and blasts the hopes of a young husband, whose only thought has been for the welfare of his beloved wife and child. It would almost seem that his burden is greater than he can bear, but in this dark hour of affliction is afforded the ray of comfort that his little boy has been spared to him.
Words of consolation can avail but little at a time like this, but Mr. Jaquis' friends desire that he should know they share his grief and, with him, humbly bow their heads to the will of the Almighty.
Besides her husband and son, deceased is survived by her parents, three sisters and three brothers, all of whom have the sympathy of everyone in their sorrow.
Funeral serviced were conducted from the United Evangelical church at Coster Monday by Rev. F. W. Agte of Ackley and interment was made in the Coster cemetery.
