Rodney H. Pack, 73, of Alderson, W.Va., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley.

Rodney was born October 31, 1935 at Jumping Branch, and was a resident of Alderson for the last 48 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cyrus Hershel Pack; mother, Susie Cochran Pack; and an infant son, Rodney H. Pack II. He is survived by his wife, Dana Stanley Pack of Alderson. Rodney and Dana celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in August.

Rodney was a graduate of Hinton High School and received his bachelor¡¯s degree from WV Institute of Technology in 1957, where he was a member of Beta Kappa Chi Fraternity.

He retired as executive vice president of Acme Limestone Company after more than 40 years. He was a past president of Raleigh Ready Mix & Asphalt and Superior Supply Company and former vice president of Superior Ready-Mix Concrete.

Rodney served a term as chairman of the Associate Division of West Virginia Contractors and head of the Joint Cooperative Committee for WV DOT and WV Contractors.

He served a term as president of the Flexible Pavement Council of WV; was a former owner and president of Simmons Building Specialties; president of Wolf Creek Corporation; and previously served on the board of directors of First National Bank of Alderson, Greenbrier Valley National Bank, Allegheny Bank Shares, Horizon Bank Shares and City National Bank.

He was a long time member of the Alderson Rotary Club, where he was past president and permanent secretary and was a Paul Harris Fellow. Rodney was also a member of the Alderson Lions Club and Greenbrier Valley Shriners Club.

He was Past Master and Treasurer of Alderson Masonic Lodge No. 70 AF & AM, past District Deputy Grand Master of the 7th Masonic District of the Grand Lodge of WV, was a 32¢ª Mason with the Charleston Valley Scottish Rite and a member of the Beni Kedem Shrine of Charleston.

He had served on both Alderson City Council and Greenbrier County Planning Commission. Rodney was a charter member of the Alderson 4th of July Committee.

He was a member of the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church, Alderson, where he was a trustee and had served in many capacities including Chairman of the Official Board, deacon, Sunday School teacher and choir member.

Rodney had been past president of the Greenbrier Association of the WV Baptist Convention and served on the executive board of the WV Baptist Convention.

He served his country for 6 years in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church in Alderson, with Dr. Bill Bryan, the Rev. Alvie Edwards and the Rev. Roger Adams officiating. Alderson Masonic Lodge No. 70 AF & AM will serve as pallbearers and conduct Masonic graveside rites.

Nephews and cousins will serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial will follow at the Lilly/Crews Cemetery, Nimitz, W.Va.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Lobban Funeral Home, Alderson, and friends may call one hour prior to services at the Church on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Rodney to the Old Greenbrier Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 456, Alderson, WV 24910.
