After the early death of his mother, it appears that Lewis took care of his father until his passing in 1929. In 1930, he was unemployed and living with his sister Ruth Elizabeth and her husband George M. Houghton. They all moved to Los Angeles sometime in the 1930s and appear on the 1940 US Census in LA. According to the Census, Lewis had completed "H4" in school and was a Waiter in a Restaurant Dining Room.

I have not found any evidence that he ever married.
