Betty Jean Shumate 28 September 1927 - 23 October 2011 Betty, the youngest of 8 children, was born in Rainier, WA, to Charles and Emma (Gehrke) Wilkowski. She passed away peacefully at the age of 84 in Tacoma. Betty is now reunited with her sweetheart, Bob, of 60 years. She is survived by two brothers, Herb and Chuck Wilkowski, four children, Alan (Stella), Roger (Barb), Debbie Triska, and Rob (Sharma), one step-daughter, Joyce (Emmett) Kolowinski, 14 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson and one great-granddaughter. Betty was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed sewing, baking, ceramics, flowers, genealogy, dancing, and any activity with family and friends. Funeral services at the LDS Church (1102 S. Pearl St., Tacoma) on Friday, October 28th, 2011, at 10:00 AM, with viewing 9:00 AM. Interment at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Tumwater. The family is grateful to Alaska Gardens for providing loving care to mom in the last years of her life.
