Passed Away
Sunday Morning
Mrs. Pierson Sexton passed away Monday morning at the Mahaska hospital at the age of 78 years. Mrs. Sexton had been in failing health for a number of years. The deceased had lived her entire life in this community. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 6 at 2 p. m. in the New Sharon Christian church with Reverend R. S. Jones in charge, assisted by Reverend R. C. Benz. Burial was in the Friends cemetery.
Mary Eleanor Farr, daughter of Joseph and Eleanor Farr, was born May 5th, 1869, near Garden Hall, Prairie township, Mahaska county, Iowa, and departed this life at the Mahaska hospital, in Oskaloosa, Iowa on Sunday, August 3rd, 1947, after an extended illness of many months, at the age of 78 years, two months and 28 days.
She grew to womanhood on a farm near Garden Hall.
On December 25th, 1888, she was united in marriage with Pierson G. Sexton of the same neighborhood.
To this union were born three children: one daughter, Lena Hazel Robertson of New Sharon and two sons, Russell Dale of Breckenridge, Minn. and Milen J. of New Sharon.
Her entire life was spent in New Sharon, and vicinity.
She was a firm believer in the Word of God and was converted at the Christian church in New Sharon and baptized in September, 1926.
She was a kind, loving wife and mother always thinking of others in their time of need.
Altho her own affliction caused intense suffering she steadfastly refused to give up and except for the last two weeks was able to sit in her chair and greatly enjoy the many friends who came to call.
Mrs. Sexton leaves to mourn her departure her husband, Pierson G. Sexton, her three children, ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; also, one brother J. P. Farr of Newark, Ohio; together with a host of relatives and friends.
