Thomas Whittlesey enlisted as a Musician (bugler) in Company C of the Fourth Michigan Volunteer Infantry, on June 20, 1861, for 3 years service. He was mustered out at the expiration of his term of service on June 29, 1864, at Detroit, Michigan. Thomas died of heart failure on December 17, 1904.

Son of Austin Whittlesay and Agnes (Lee) Knapp Whittlesay.

He worked as a mechanical engineer in South Omaha, Nebraska. Married Laura Way, daughter of Gilbert and Harriet Way on September 17, 1874, in Chicago, Illinois.

Thomas Harry Whittlesay, b. April 16, 1876, at Kittanning, Pa.; Laura Eva Whittlesay, b. Oct. 2, 1877, at Valpariso, Ind.; James Whittlesay, b. Feb. 2, 1879, at Hammond, Ind.; Harriet Agnes Whittlesay, b. Mar. 14, 1882, at Hammond, Ind.
