Edwin J. Landwehr (1943 - 2011)

Edwin John Landwehr, 68, passed courageously into our Lord's hands Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at his home. Funeral: Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment: 2:15 p.m. Monday in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, with full military honors. Visitation: Recitation of the holy rosary will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Biggers Funeral Home. The family will receive friends afterward. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 800 High Crest Drive, Azle, Texas 76020, or the American Cancer Society.

Ed was born Jan. 21, 1943, in Greeley, Kan., to A.G. and Lenora Landwehr. He spent his early years in Greeley before meeting his loving wife of 45 years, Janice Morisse, at Emporia State University. After college, Ed started his military career, attended Officer Candidate School and began flight training. He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years and received many awards, including the highest unit award a military organization can give, the Presidential Unit Citation Award. Ed continued his aviation career as a pilot for American Airlines and retired as a captain after 17 years. After retirement, he enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Ed was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, The Men's Club and the Knights of Columbus. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, A.G. and Lenora Landwehr; and his brother, Dennis Landwehr.

Survivors: He will be deeply missed by his wife, Jan Landwehr; son, Steve Landwehr and wife, Terri; daughters, Kristi Ballou and husband, Mike, Suzy Jones and husband, Brent, and Jackie Cook and husband, Danny; grandchildren, Noah, Nate, Kennedy, Jacob, Nick, Natalie, Owen and Miles; siblings, Trudy Rockers, J. Frank Landwehr, Katherine Hermreck, LouAnn Hermreck, Mary Rickabaugh, Jeannette Gilner, Mona Farrell, Joyce Landwehr and Judy Schaefer; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends.
