Civil War Medal of Honor recipient. He enlisted in the Union Army at Willsboro, New York and served as a First Sergeant, in Company M, 2nd New York Cavalry. On April 6, 1865 at the battle at Sailors Creek, Virginia he captured the Confederate flag of the 18th Virginia Infantry, C.S.A.
