Marie Bernau

Funeral service for Marie Bernau, 95, of Whittemore, was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec 12, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Whittemore with Rev. Loren Trapp officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with the Geilenfeld-Schaaf-McCullough Funeral Service of Whittemore in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Gary Bernau, Vincent Bolte, Jeff Faulstich, Clinton Eden, Paul Bernau and Mark Bernau.

Marie, daughter of Jacob and Emilie Ruff Van Buren, was born April 19, 1884 at Waterloo, Ill. Where she attended school. She married August Bernau at Waterloo in the Immanuel Lutheran Church March 29, 1910. The farmed in Riverdale Township until 1966 when the Bernau's moved into Whittemore. Mr. Bernau died Feb 18, 1974 and his wife died Monday, Dec. 10, at the Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg.

Surviving are six children: Miss Emilie Bernau, Waterloo, Ill.; August Bernau, Jr., Burt; Rolland Bernau, West Bend; Ernest Bernau, Fountain, Minn.; Ida, Mrs. Victor Faulstich, Emmetsburg; and Otto Bernau, Emmons, Minn. She has 23 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Brothers and sisters who survive are Mrs. Hermina Kneuper, Winterset; Henry Van Buren, Waterloo, Ill.; Louis Van Buren, Lathrop, Mo.; William Van Buren, Waterloo, Ill.; Armin Van Buren, Truro, Ia.; Arthur Van Buren, Van Meter, Ia.; and Albert Van Buren, Algona.

Mrs. Bernau was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for nearly 60 years, the Riverdale Friendly Club and Cresco Birthday Club.

Her husband and parents preceded her in death.
