Funeral services for Johnie Howard Abel were held Tuesday, Aug. 20, in the chapel of the Barkley Davis Funeral home in Canton, with the Rev. Tom Raber officiating. Music was furnished by W. E. Dorris, with Mrs. Robert Ayers at the organ. Pall bearers were Bert Barnes, Ernest Hemming, Jim West, David West, Warren Bolton and John T. West. Burial was in Forest Grove cemetery. Mr. Abel died Sunday, Aug. 18 at his home in Canton. John Howard Abel, the son of Elsberry and Jane Johnston Abel, was born at Bellflower, Ill., on Sept. 28, 1888. He was married to Pearl Susan Morton at Quincy on March 11, 1913. Mr. Abel, a retired carpenter, was a member of Carpenters Union Local No. 198. Survivors include his wife; a son, Howard Roy Abel of Houston, Tex.; a daughter, Mrs. Charley Keithley of Cedar Rapids, Ia.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
