Chilled from riding and anxious to reach the warmth of his home, Louis eight year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Bevington, jumped from the rear of the wagon and rushed headlong against the rear fender of a passing auto about 6:30 last Saturday evening and received injuries from which he died within an hour.
Louis had caught a ride out from down town with Ward Mapes. Mr. Mapes had stopped his team across the street from the Jack Linehan home on S. Main street to let Lewis off, and had warned the boy of the approaching auto. Louis hopped off the rear of the wagon and evidently waited only until the headlights of the car passed him and then, head down, started to dash across the road way, leaping out from behind the wagon just in time to strike the rear of the car.
The impact was felt by the occupants of the car, Warren Knowles,Jr., Charles Gallup and Mrs E. B Carish who were returning home from Northfield where the boys attend Carlton College. They had no idea what they had struck until Warren, who was driving, turned the car around and came back to investigate. They found Mr. Mapes carrying the boy into the Linehan home, where a doctor was summoned. Louis was then taken to the City Hospital, where died a few minutes after arrival. His neck had been broken and his skull fractured.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Mr. Graham officiating and burial was made in Greenwood cemetery.
Louis is survived by his parents, Mr and Mrs. Cleveland Bevington, three brothers Leonard, George and Walter and his twin sister Leona. The bereaved family have the deep sympathy of the entire community in their tragic loss.
