Lake Centenarian Dies On Sunday; Monday Funeral
Funeral services for Mrs. Paralee Pace Ezell Wheeler, 103, of Lake, were held Monday afternoon, Jan. 18, at 2 from the Hazel Baptist Church in Newton County, with Elder Waddell Moore officiating. Internment followed in the Sharron Cemetery with Ott and Lee Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Wheeler died January 17, 1965 in the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. John Hensley, with whom she resided. She was a member of the Sharron Primitive Baptist Church.
The centenarian was a native of Newton County born April 30, 1861 and reared at Prospect Community near Conehatta. For a number of years after she was widowed the second time, she resided in Louisiana with her sons, the late Clarke and Walter Ezell, and their families. After the deaths of her sons, she made Lake her home. Each year a birthday celebration for Mrs. Wheeler was homecoming for family members.
In the last two years of her life, she was a bed patient, suffering from infirmities of old age.
Mrs. Wheeler leaves a daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Ezell Gibbs of Lake, 22 grandchildren; over 100 great- grandchildren and great-g r e a t grandchildren; two great-great-great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. She leaves five generations as descendants.
Pallbearers at the services were Rex Ezell, John Lewis Hensley, Paul Hollingsworth, Franklin D. Saterfield, Melvin Cooksey, and Thurman Pace.
