FIRST LEWIS COUNTY BOY TO GIVE LIFE FOR COUNTRY
Word reached here Thursday that the first of Lewis County's drafted boys to give his life for the service of the country was Dick Hemming who died at Camp Kearkey, California at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, from measles and bronchial pneumonia. Hemming was one of the second increment to be sent to Camp Funston on Sept 19 and from there later transferred to California. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Hemming of Canton. His remains will be sent back to Canton for burial at the governments expense.
