STERLING - Ruth G. Allen, 92, of Sterling, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at Good Neighbor Care in Sterling. She and her husband co-owned North End Liquor in Sterling.
Ruth was born March 23, 1919, in Malvern, the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Murphy) Gaffey. She married James W. Allen on June 2, 1941, in Sterling.
He preceded her in death on May 26, 2004.
Ruth was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen Peterson of Sterling; five sons, James (Julie) Allen of Wheaton, Timothy (Jennifer) Allen of Middleton, Wis., Thomas Allen of Wheaton, Richard (Julie) Allen of Sugar Grove, and Christopher Allen of Louisville, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Gaffey.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sterling.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Monsignor Thomas E. Bales officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling.
A memorial has been established.
