Staff Sgt. Christopher R. Newman, 26, of Shelby, N.C., died Oct. 29, in Kabul province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their vehicle with a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device. He was assigned to Medical Company A, Tripler Army Medical Center, Hawaii. He is survived by his wife, Amanda Jo Lynn Newman of San Antonio, Texas, daughter, Anyca C.
