Mrs. Staton died at her residence Tuesday afternoon following an illness of one week. She had been in poor health for nearly two years. But did not become seriously ill until last Thursday when she complained of a heart attack. Another attack Tuesday was the cause of her death.

Born in Wayne county Illinois, in 1860. Mrs. Staton spends her early girlhood in the community and in 1879 married her girlhood sweetheart, John T. Staton. The couple moved to a farm in Ellis county, Texas, in 1883. They moved to Wichita county in 1886, and lived here for the remainder of their lives with the exception of 13 years. The family moved to Oklahoma in 1896, but returned to Wichita county in 1909.

The family farm home, five miles southeast of Wichita Falls, is a landmark to the old settlers of this area. The first general Sunday school was organized in 1889 at this site before organized churches had come into the community. The school for the community also was held there and it was a meeting place for many a pioneer social occasion.

Only one house stood between the Staton farm home and Henrietta when the county lines for Clay and Archer counties were run by surveyors. Wichita Falls was a small, struggling village at that time.

Staton died July 5, 1915, leaving a number of farms and valuable pieces of city real estate to his wife.

Survivors include one daughter Mrs. Mabel Jones of Elk City, Okla.; four sons Roscoe, Claude, Roy and William p. Staton: seven grandchildren, Allen, Jack, and Paul Jones of Elk City, Okla.; Herman Staton of Cleveland, Ohio, Newby Station of Fort Worth, Mrs. Harry Cohen and Merrill Staton of Wichita Falls: a sister Mrs. Sarah Boyd of Wichita Falls; a niece, Mrs. A. E. Hart of Elk City, Okla.: three great-grandchildren, two nephews, O. M. Seal and P. A. McIntosh, both of Wichita Falls, and a cousin, O. P. Maricie of Wichita Falls
