PRATT CITY VET PASSES AT HOME
PIONEER MERCHANT SUCCUMBS TO LENGTHY ILLNESS
Lorenzo Monroe Lacey, 89, for 49 years a merchant here and a Confederate veteran, died at his home, 410 Fifth Street, Pratt City, Monday and will be buried Tuesday morning. Services will be held at Pratt City Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m., the pastor, the Rev. R. L. Baker, to be assisted by the presiding elder, Dr. L. C. Branscomb, and the Rev. T. C. Wyatt.
Up to three months ago when he took ill, Mr. Lacy was in business at Pratt City. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Martha Lucinda Lacey, and two sons, Joseph E. and J. Frank Lacey. Twenty grandchildren survive.
He was born in Pike County, Georgia, and enlisted in the Confederate Army at Seale, Ala., in Company F, Sixth Alabama Regiment, under Capt. Baker and Col. Seibels. He participated in the Battles of the Pines, Seven Days and Bull Run and was taken prisoner July 4, 1863, was confined in Fort Delaware and paroled March, 1865.
He was a Mason and a steward in the First Methodist Church, Pratt City.
Active pallbearers will be the grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. W. W. Whorton, Dr. H. T. McGehee, Dr. A. F. Orton, Mrs. R. F. Lovelady, J. T. Pittard, Tom Pippin, Leroy Claxton, C. A. Carter, N. W. Scott, H. C. Nellems [Nellenis?], George W. Edwards, Ben L. Ingram, W. C. McClure, J. L. Little, M. H. Barnes, J. M. Reynolds, Arthur Powell, W. R. Parker, I. A. Miles, A. Smith and Methodist stewards."
