Son of the late Charles and Carrie Smith VanAmburgh, he was born on January 5, 1938 in Cornwall, NY. On June 28, 1959 at Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh, he married Sandra L. Davis VanAmburgh who survives at home.
Robert was a retired Supervising Custodian at Newburgh City Schools, Newburgh, NY.
In addition to his loving wife of 52 years, Robert, is survived by two sons, Robert W. VanAmburgh, and his wife Marianne, of Plattekill, NY, and Michael L. VanAmburgh, and his wife Penny, of the Town of Newburgh; his daughter, Susan VanAmburgh, of the Town of Newburgh; his brother, Leroy VanAmburgh, of Virginia; four grandchildren, Michael, Nicole, Alexis, and Madison Rose; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, and one special nephew, William E. Henderson of the Town of Newburgh.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Patricia TenHagen, and three brothers: Charles, Sam, and James VanAmburgh.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm on Thursday, November 3, at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 am, Friday, November 4, at Sacred Heart Church, Newburgh.
Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor.
