Mary was 52 years old when she passed away. She was one of eight children born to Timothy Barns and Rose Ann (Pease). Mary married Andrew Byron Welch in Michigan. They had three children: Jim Byrum, Elizabeth Alvira, and Sarah Almira.
Mary spent most of her life in Michigan. Sometime between 1868 and 1870 she relocated to Phelps, MO with her husband and children and there she remained until her death. She is buried in Beaver Cemetery along with her husband.

A funeral sermon was preached from Job 14 X 14 at the Beaver Creek Baptist Church by J.J. Watts, Sept 6th 1885. Husband and 3 children survive her.
