S. Richard Bieda, 68, entered into rest unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at Penn State Hershey Medical Center. He was the husband of Donna M. (McLaughlin) Bieda of York, to whom he married on June 3, 1967.

He was born in Indiana County on September 8, 1943, the son of the late Stanley and Lena (Berasi) Bieda.

He was a Physical Education teacher in the Red Lion School District for 37 years retiring in 2002, prior to that he taught in Maryland for one year. He graduated from Apollo Ridge High School in Indiana County, attended Lock Haven University graduating in 1965 and completed his Masters degree at Shippensburg in Counseling. Mr. Bieda was a member of the Red Lion Education Association, PA State Education Association, National Education Association, PA State Athletic Director's Association, and the Red Lion Elks.

After retirement, he and his wife enjoyed going to antique shows and had a booth at Grey Beard's in Jacobus. He spent time restoring his Triumph antique car, and he loved sports but was especially fond of the Pittsburgh Steeler's and Pirates. He and Donna loved traveling to Mexico. Richard coached 9th grade football at Red Lion for many years, he continued to substitute after retirement just to stay involved with the kids and was a former youth fellowship advisor.

In addition to his wife, Donna of York, he has a son, Michael R. Bieda of Chaddsford; a daughter, Kelly L. Butzler of Jersey Shore and husband, Tom; six grandchildren, Jacob, Emma, Alex and Kate Butzler and Caroline and Benjamin Bieda; one sister, Gloriann Stiffler of Michigan; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Bob Bieda; and two sisters, Rosemarie Manner and Joann Robinson.

Richard was a family man. He adored his wife Donna of 44 years and was a very devoted father to his children. As children, he was very much involved with all the activities that Michael and Kelly were interested in. As they became adults, he focused his attention to his children at school and it was always his intention to be a great role model and to make a difference to their lives in any way. He was a dedicated and devoted coach and this gave him the opportunity to stay involved with children. As his family grew, and he became Grandpa, he continued to be a big influence in all ways in their lives. He was a very devoted husband, father grandfather and teacher/ coach who gave all of himself to others and will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens.
