Robert was born in Monroe, Louisiana and lived most of his life in San Francisco.
He volunteered to serve in the U.S. Marines where he acquired the knowledge and skills to work in the telecommunications field. After retiring from Pacific Bell, he started his own successful small business in that field.
Survivors include his wife Marvelle; his children, Dennis Carter, David Carter and Denise Carter; his brother, Ivan Neal and sisters, Quintina Dalton, Marjorie Neal and Julitha Neal; his step-daughters, Helene Dillard and Judith Will; nine grandchildren; nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Carter and Evelyn Dixon, his stepmother Patsy Carter and his sister Maria May.
At his request, there were no services.
Interment was Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Olivet Memorial Park "....I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith...."
