Funeral services for Sgt. Robert LeRhea Cowan, III, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Cowan, Jr., of 13205 Roaring Springs Lane, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park.

Cowan was killed in action in Vietnam May 12.

Cowan first went to Vietnam in March 1968. He volunteered to return to Vietnam and returned there May 1 after completing a 30-day leave in Dallas.

A native of Dallas, he attended schools in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and graduated from memorial High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1964.

Cowan had attended Trinity University in San Antonio where he was a member of ROTC and Pershing Rifles. He withdrew in his junior year and enlisted in the Army.

He had been stationed at Ft. Polk, La., Ft. Ord, Calif., Ft. Benning, GA., and Ft. Hood prior to going to Vietnam in 1968.

Also active in Boy Scouts, he had attained Life Rank and had received the God and Country award.

He was a member of Kirk of the Hills United Presbyterian Church in Tulsa.

Other survivors are a brother in the U.S. Navy; and grandparents Dr. and Mrs. E. C. Scott of Atlanta, Ga.
