Vernon was the third son of four boys born to Arthur Lee Stone and Leslie Dae Jones. His brothers were John William known as "JW" or "Jay", Alton Lee or "Bud" and Donald Ray.

Services for Vernon Louis Stone, 67, of Anton will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church of Anton.

Burial will be in Anton Cemetery under direction of Hammons Funeral Home of Littlefield.

Stone died Saturday, May 4, 1997, at Methodist Hospital in Lubbock. He was born Oct. 8, 1929, in Woodrow. He has been a lifetime Anton resident. He graduated from Anton High School in 1947 and graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in agriculture in 1951.

He married Edyth Emmons in January 1959 in Anton. He was a deacon of First Baptist Church of Anton. He was song leader for 12 years. He taught the Juniors Sunday School Class and also taught adult Sunday school classes. He was a past City Council member and past president of the Anton Little Dribblers. He was a Little Dribblers coach and Little League coach. He was a former Farm Bureau board member.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Randall and Ray Stone, both of Anton; two daughters, Rhonda Lester of Amarillo and Risa Barron of County Line; two brothers, J.W. Stone of Dimmitt and Donald Stone of Uvalde; and six grandchildren.
