Dean E. Abicht
Dean E. Abicht, 75, of Newport, OH, died Feb. 22, 2002, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 19, 1926, in Wade, OH, a son of the late Earl T. and Gertrude Eddy Abicht. He was a 1944 graduate of Newport High School. He was a farmer and owner of Abicht Orchards. He had operated the Abicht Market in Newport for 35 years. He had been employed at Olin Matheson Aluminum Company. He was retired from the U.S. Department of Transportation, U.S. Coast Guard, Nov. 1980, as a lamplighter. He was one of the last lamplighters in the valley. He had been appointed Dec. 7, 1960. He received a Certificate of Appreciation on June 1, 1975 as well as a service emblem. He was a member of the Harmar Blue Lodge 390 F & AM for 50 years, a member of the York Rite Chapter Council Commandry, a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, Valley of Cambridge, a member of Aladdin Temple of the Shrine of Columbus, OH, and a member of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of OH. He was a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem 12, a member of Marietta Chapter 59 Order of the Scottish Rite Club, a member of Elks Lodge 1701 BPOE of St. Marys. He was a Methodist by faith. He was a kind and loving husband and father.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie J. Mason Abicht, whom he married Nov. 25, 1955; one daughter, Rema L. Robbins and her husband Wayne Robbins of Newport, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ben F. Abicht and Earl T. Abicht; and one sister, Martha Schneider.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, at Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, Pastor Steve Smith officiating. Burial in Newport Cemetery
