On the 1850 US Census for Cabarrus Couny, NC, 8 yo Benjamin F was living with his (assumed) parents Thomas J 50 and Esther E 44 and his (assumed) siblings John W 21, Joseph N 19, Mary and Margaret L 15, Elizabeth E 13, Thomas J 10, Catharine A 6, William H 2 and Elsa Hudson 84. The North Carolina Marriage Collection found on Ancestry.com has Thomas J Poteet marrying Esther A. Reid 17 Dec 1827. Other researchers have his first wife as Rose Penninger, however, I have not found proof yet.
