Partner in Cigar Firm Succumbs in Hospital at Age of 71

Owego?Charles H. Barton, 71, police justice of the Village of Owego , died in the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa., yesterday afternoon after an illness of several months.
Mr. Barton was born in Greene Jan. 24, 1874, the son of Walton Barton and Mary D. Montayne Barton. The family came to Owego years ago and established the old Barton Cigar Co., where Mr. Barton was employed. He later became part owner.
He was completing his third term as police justice.
Mr. Barton was one of the oldest members of Friendship Lodge, F. and A. M . He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Tioga County Sportsmen's Association.
The body was removed to the VanBuskirk Funeral Home in Front Street where Masonic rites will be held Thursday night at 7:30. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 p. m. The Rev. Edgar Frank, pastor of the Presbyterian Union Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Barton's only survivors are his wife, Mrs. Lucy Abbott Barton, and two cousins, George Barton and Albert Barton, both of Owego.
