Dr. Robert S. Douglass was a 1936 graduate of Breckenridge High School and got his musical start as a trumpet player in the Buckaroo band.

He was a retired Distinguished Professor of Musicology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a former music critic for the Fort Worth Star Telegram serving 20 years and his last review for the newspaper appeared in 1982.

Just before his retirement, he taught for eight weeks at the Baptist Theological Seminary at Trujillo, Peru. He ministered in small churches in the country on the weekends.

He and his wife planned to devote their retirement years as short-term volunteer missionaries in Spanish-speaking countries, said Mark Wingfield, a spokesman for the seminary.

He was a member of Broadway Baptist Church.

Mr. Douglass earned his bachelor of music, master of music history for 32 years at Southwestern Seminary and retired in July 1986. He served as associated dean of advanced studies.

His mother was the late Mrs. Allie M. Douglass.

Survivors: his wife; son - Robert Douglass, Jr. of Fort Worth; daughter - Melanie Douglass Brooks of Burleson; sister - Mary Douglass of Fort Worth; one grandson.
