Donald G. Johnson, age 76, died Friday, March 18, 2005, at the Huron Nursing Home.
His funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, March 22, at American Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Tuesday morning.
Donald G. Johnson was born on May 28, 1928, to Carl Wallace and Ethel (Cranston) Johnson at Sioux City, IA. He moved to Huron with his parents as a young child and attended school in Huron, graduating from Huron High School.
On June 20, 1948, Donald married Doris Irene Horine at Huron. He was employed with the Gus Jacobson Construction Company for a number of years; the Groves Construction Company as a foreman for many years; and the city of Huron in the water department for a number of years. His wife, Doris, died on July 2, 1993. After his retirement in the early 1990s, Donald continued to live in Huron.
He was a member of American Lutheran Church. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his family, as well as building projects for his family.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Barbara (Darrell) Bittner of Henderson, NV, and Jodi (Stephen) Walter of Huron; 4 grandchildren, Chad (Kelly) Bittner, Diana (Jeff) Gross, Shane Walter, and Brandon Walter; 6 great grandchildren, Katie, Sam, Max, and Ben Bittner, Kaycee, and Stockten Walter; 1 sister, Janelle (Ted) Boyes of Houston, TX; 1 sister-in-law, Mary Jane Thompson of Huron; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris; and 1 daughter, Gay Lynn Johnson on March 13, 2000.
