SEWELL GEORGIA FRANCES (George) SEWELL was born in Angleton, Texas September 5, 1914, died June 10, 2001. H.W. (Bill) Sewell, Sr., her husband for fifty-six years died September 1, 1988. Georgia was preceded in death by two sisters, Jeanetta Smithers of Houston, Betty Jo Nelson of Dallas, and one brother, Charles George of Houston. Georgia had five children, H.W. (Bill) Jr. and wife Jody, Richard, Margo Chandler, Exar Vallery and husband Fred, Joel and wife Debra, who all reside in the greater Houston area. There are seventeen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. The familyfly feels a special gratitude to Lesa Moody, her grand-daughter and caregiver for the past four years. Georgia moved to Houston in 1924 with her family from Angleton. She met Bill, who at the time was trucking fresh produce from East Texas farms to the Central Farmers' Market, a popular gathering place during an era before dependable refrigeration. Bill and Georgia married and started their family during the depths of the Great Depression, followed by World War II. Georgia and Bill learned to be very resourceful with precious little food and material goods. Even so, they lovingly opened their home to their extended family. Georgia was ill for many years and unable to be very active was a voracious reader and developed knowledge and insights far beyond her formal education. She believed that a good education was essential for success; she pushed all of her children to achieve their best and was very proud of her children's achievements. Georgia will be missed and remembered with much love. Her family takes comfort in the knowledge that she is no longer suffering. She is dwelling in the House of the Lord. Visitation will begin 5:00pm Wednesday at Brookside Funeral Home. Services will be Thursday June 14, 2001 at 3:00pm. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery.
