Thomas L. Curran, 68, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture in 1937-38, died at 1 AM today at his home 127 W. 4th St., after a week of illness, Mr. Curran has been living in Kansas City the past several months, where he was employed as a government veterinarian. Before that in 1944 he lived near Silver City, New Mexico where he was interested in a gold mine and where he was a candidate for Democratic nomination for Congress. The well-known Ottumwan was widely traveled. In 1930-32 headed the Bureau of Animal industry in Venezuela. He was in the Spanish-American War and spent three years in the Philippines. He was elected Secretary of Agriculture for Iowa at the time Nelson G. Kraschel was governor. Both were on the Democratic ticket. Mr. Curran was born in Ottumwa, March 26, 1880 the son of Dennis and Ellen Curran he was educated in parochial schools here and studied veterinary medicine at St. Joseph, Missouri. He was a member of the veteran of foreign wars. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 8:30 AM at the Vaughn funeral home and at nine o'clock at St. Mary's Church were the right Rev. J.M. Walsh, V.F., will celebrate the requiem high mass. There will be military services at the grave in Calvary Cemetery. Members of the Knights of Columbus will meet Wednesday at 7:30 PM at the K. of C. home to go to the Vaughn funeral home in a body to join members of the Holy Name Society. They will recite the rotary at eight o'clock.
