He was a brickmason for Local No. 7 for 15 years until three years ago. He and his brother, Paul, owned and operated the Federer Bros. Grocery at Poseyville and Ashby from 1946 to 1957. He also worked for Dow Chemical Company 10 years. He was a former justice of the peace for eight years in Midland Township.
He was a member of St. Brigid's Catholic Church. He was married to Venita Baser Aug. 19, 1935, in Midland.
He is survived by his wife; one sons, Richard C., of Midland; one daughter, Mrs. Ewan (Phyllis) Grantham, of Loveland, Col.; four brothers, Edward, Leo, and Paul, all of Midland; and Lawrence, of Lansing; five sisters, Mrs. Burt (Julia) Bye, Mrs. William (Agnes) Phillips, Mrs. Jack (Anna) Gotham, Mrs. Sidney (Ruth) Nankervis and Mrs. Allen (Mary) Bartlett, all of Midland; and seven grandchildren.
