Eleanor Ruth "Tat" Burke Moses
SUMTER - Eleanor Ruth "Tat" Burke Moses, 79, wife of Richard Phillips Moses,
died Thursday, October 15, 2009, at her home.
Born in Alcolu, she was a daughter of the late George Washington Burke and
Mattie Amelia Geddings Burke.
Mrs. Moses was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she was a
member of the Fa-HoLo Sunday school class. She was a graduate of the Tuomey
Hospital School of Nursing. She was also a graduate of USC-Sumter where she
received an associate degree in business. She was a sustaining member of the
Sumter Junior Welfare League. She was a former administrator of Hopewell Nursing
Home, a former administrator of National Healthcare of Sumter and was also a
past "NHC Administrator of the Year". She was a former director of the Sub-acute
Unit at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, and a former administrator of Solomon's
Home. Tat was a Fellow in the American College of Health Care Administrators and
was also a member of The Forum
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was
greatly devoted to her family and to those she served. Her family was always the
joy of her life.
Surviving are her husband of Sumter; two sons, Dr. Henry Phillips Moses and
wife, Linda, of Sumter, and Perry Moses Weinberg of Greenville, SC; one daughter
Mary Moses Deakin of Sumter; one brother, Paul Burke and wife, Martha, of
Alcolu; five sisters, Mary Burke Davis of Columbia, Jennie Burke DuRant of
Manning, Thelma Burke Black and husband, Jack, of Alcolu, Betty Burke Gaines of
Manning, and Amelia Burke Alderman and husband, Dr. Robert Alderman, of Roanoke,
VA; five grandchildren, Dr. Allison Whitney Moses Przybyla and husband, Dr. Adam
Przybyla, Charlotte Whitten Deakin, John Frederick Deakin, Jr., Caroline
Phillips Moses Zitzke and husband Dr. Ryan Zitzke, Helen Amelia Moses and George
Davis Weinberg; one great-grandchild, Bowen Amelia Zitzke.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Eleanor Phillips Moses; three
brothers, George Wilbur Burke, William Lewis Burke and Alva Lamar Burke.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity United Methodist
Church with Rev. Stephen Taylor and Rev. Dr. Robert Alderman officiating.
Burial will be in Sumter Jewish Cemetery with Rabbi Robert Seigel
officiating.
Pallbearers will be Dr. James DuRant, Richard Mahon, Stephen Moses, Ernie
Mathis, Dr. Gene Dickerson, Dr. Mark Crabbe, Richard Murrell and Don McLeod.
The family will receive friends at the home, 110 Conyers St., from 4 to 6
p.m. Saturday

SUMTER - Eleanor Ruth "Tat" Burke Moses, 79, wife of Richard Phillips Moses,
died Thursday, October 15, 2009, at her home.
Born in Alcolu, she was a daughter of the late George Washington Burke and
