Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Colonial Funeral Home for Mr. Eligha H. Smith, Jr., 76, of Columbia, who died Monday, February 20, 2006, at The Grove. Interment was in the Hurricane Creek Cemetery with Bro. Phillip Duncan officiating at the service. Visitation was held Tuesday, February 21, 2006, from 5:00-9:00. A native of Marion Co. , he was a retired electrician and a member of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eligha Smith and Suzanna Smith; step mother, Mamie Merritt Smith; three brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Marlene Boyd Smith; five daughters, Joyce and Bill Vasilion of Columbia, Kathey Perry of Baton Rouge, La., Sharon Bader and husband Otto of Slidell, Liz Thornhill and husband Robert of Columbia, and Vivian Martin and husband Leroy of Pine, LA.; two sons, Larry 'Sambo' Smith of Oak Vale and Michael Smith of Foxworth; two sisters, Lou Barron of Florence and Bertile Ard of Jayess; one brother, Eilgah Rudolph Smith of Monticello; 10 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Colonial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
