Hannah Jane Hawkins was born in 1844 to Charles G. Hawkins (b. July 20, 1807, Port Jefferson, NY; d. Feb. 20 1881, Port Jefferson, NY) and Abigail C. Hawkins (b. 1808; d. 1891).

She married Richard Charles Jones (b. Nov. 21, 1834, County Limerick, Ireland; d. Nov. 14, 1917, Newark, NJ).

At the time of the 1870 census, Richard and Hannah Jones lived in Brooklyn, NY in close proximity to other Jones family members. Richard was an architect.

Their children were: Charles Granville, Phebe, Eva, Richard, Ethel Helen, and Lillian Margaret Jones. Of these, only Charles G., Ethel and Lillian survived to adulthood. Charles Granville Jones (b. 1865, Brooklyn NY; d. 1938, Belleville NJ) was a noted architect who studied under his father and designed many buildings, public and private, in the NJ area surrounding Belleville.
