Most of this is from a family sketch, written by Mae (Blackburn) White and Bill E. Blackburn, possibly in the 1940s or 1950s. I do not know how they obtained this information. Perhaps from stories they were told as children. Some of the information contained is incorrect. This information is copyrighted and it their own work. It is not in public domain, nor may it be copied and posted elsewhere. Thank you.

In 1836, Thompson Smith, and his brother, Anderson Smith, came with their father to Cameron, MO, which was just west of the Clinton County line (at that time). Thompson built the first house of logs in that town. (NOTE: Thompson came as a married man and may have come with multiple family members).

Thompson served a member of the Missouri Legislature of 34 years (17 terms). He also was the first sheriff of Clinton County. (NOTE: I can only verify 8 years of service in the legislature).

Thompson married Betsy Conlee on 4 May 1823 in Madison Co, Illinois, as Thompson Smith and Betsy Conlee. So far, 11 known children have been documented.

Additional information from Julie Rasmussen:
Thompson Smith was the oldest child of 14 born to Anderson "Lant" Henry Smith Sr. and his wife Rebecca Thompson. He was born in Pulaski Co., KY; in 1810 & 1820 Censuses the family lived in Granville County, North Carolina; in 1830 Census are found in Clay County, Missouri; 1840 are in Clinton County, MO; and in 1850 in DeKalb, MO.
