Billie Marie Brown Cowling was born on April 4, 1935, in Gainesville, Texas, to Clarence and Minnie Brown. She attended Gainesville schools and graduated with honors in 1953. She married Ken Cowling on Feb. 28, 1953. She and Ken had three sons, Ken Jr., Byron and Randy, who died in 1970.

Billie attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, obtaining a BS and a master's degree in nutrition, with a minor in education. She was a nutrition consultant at hospitals in the South Plains area. Billie was director of the Expanded Nutrition program for the Texas Agriculture Extension Services. She also was an owner in Cowling's Furniture for approximately 20 years. She and Ken operated Cowling Enterprises until her death.

Billie taught Sunday school, Royal Ambassadors and was a Christian Witness to anyone who would listen. Billie's only request is that you accept the plan of Salvation purchased with the blood of Jesus Christ, and witness to others as she so willingly did. She was a devout Christian and a supporter of evangelist Billy Graham. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Lubbock, Texas. Her family, church and friends meant everything to her.

She is survived by her husband, Ken; sons, Ken Jr. and Byron Cowling and wife, Barbara; granddaughter, Lindsey Brooke; and grandsons, Bo and Benjamin, and John Colton, Joseph Clayton and Cody Daniel Cowling. She is also survived by two sisters, Patty Marion of Gainesville, Texas, and Elizabeth Howton of Houston, Texas.

Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers will host a time of reflection and fellowship for family and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011, at the funeral home. A service to celebrate her life of 76 years will be held at First Baptist Church, Lubbock, Texas, at 10 a.m., Nov. 11, 2011. Burial will be at 10 a.m., Era Cemetery, Era, Texas, 10 miles south of Gainesville, Texas, Nov. 12, 2011.
