In November 1966, First Lieutenant Bob Billesbach was assigned to the 25th Tactical Fighter Squadron (TFS) at Eglin Air Force Base, Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where he was flying the F-4D. The 25th TFS received specialized F-4D's with advanced Loran navigation systems and panelescent lighting. They trained to drop acoustics and sensors, that were used to pinpoint the movement of Viet Cong and North Vietnamese forces into South Vietnam in support of operation 'Igloo White'.

In May 1968, the 25th TFS was sent to Ubon Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand. During his tour he volunteered to be a Wolf Forward Air Controller (FAC) aircraft commander as a first generation Wolf.

Robert 'Bob' L. Billesbach of Alpine and Tucson, AZ passed away peacefully August 11, 2005 with his family by his side after fighting a courageous battle against cancer.

Born April 6, 1941 in Hastings, Nebraska to Ed and Phyllis Billesbach, he graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1964 and remained a loyal and dedicated Husker fan throughout his life.

He is survived by his beautiful wife and best friend, Mary Billesbach, his two children Brett (Lori) Billesbach and Shanna (Matt) Blair; his parents; his brother Dick (Alice) Billesbach; his nephew Chris Billesbach; and his beloved grandchildren Bryce and Alex.

A true patriot, his passion in life was to serve his country. He followed his dream of becoming a fighter pilot flying F-4's and A-10's. He retired a Lt. Col. and an honored war Veteran. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

Services: Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Saguaro Christian Church, 8302 E. Broadway Blvd. Tucson, AZ 85710. Reception to follow at the home of Brett and Lori Billesbach.
