Heaven's residents rejoice while Earth's are sad at the passing of Glenn R. Burgess on Nov. 6, 2011. He was 78 years old.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 48 years, Lucy D. Burgess. He is survived by his four children, Glenda Johnston and husband, Jay, Gina Swinea and husband, Tim, Kirk Burgess and Alaina Burgess.
He was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Nicole Johnston, Miranda Young, Phillip Johnston, Brittany Johnston, Kaitlyn Johnston, Tanya Moore, Kimberly Swinea, Luke Swinea, Scarlett Swinea and Ally Judd; and seven great-grandchildren.
Glenn was a member of Jacksonburg Church of Christ and was known for his booming bass voice. He enjoyed singing at various events, especially as part of "The Harbor Lights Quartet" and "Silver and Gold," a bluegrass ensemble. If there was a singing at a Church of Christ, Glenn Burgess was there. He also loved gardening and enjoyed giving homegrown fruits and vegetables to his friends and neighbors. He had a great sense of humor and quick wit. Glenn was a moral, faithful and devout Christian. He was a hero to his children and led his life as he led a song - with love and joy, patience and prayer. He was and is a pure example of values, morals, principles and faith.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Jacksonburg Church of Christ, 414 County Road 28, Florence, Ala. A congregational singing service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at Jacksonburg Church of Christ, with burial to follow in the adjoining cemetery. Officiating at the service will be Garry Gooch. The body will lie in state one hour before the service. Pallbearers will be Glenn's brothers in Christ, Ronald Hayes, Doug Watkins, Bob McClure, Leon Quillen, Junior Behel, Wayne Bretherick, Danny Arnold and Steve Smallwood.
Arrangements by Greenview Funeral Home.
