A TRIBUTE AND SYMPATHY
As we arose last Sabbath morning and on our arrival at the house of God for worship, we were plunged into sorrow, as we were told of the death of our dear Brother James H. Mason, Jr. A good man has fallen, a useful man in the church and the business world has been called from our midst. We shall miss him; we think of him as he often extended to his pastor and brethren the hand of fellowship, and that pleasant smile of his, which seemed to say, "It is well with my soul."
Our hearts go out in sympathy for the devoted wife and loving children who mourn their loss. Listen, loved ones, could he speak, would he not say:
My wife dear, and children near to me,
you have been kind;
My soul has won its way to Heaven,
where Jesus welcomes all mankind.
But why did he leave so soon? Who can answer the question? When shall we understand? Someone has said:
Not until the loom is silent, and the
shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God unroll the canvas and
explain the reason why:
As the dark threads are as needful
on the weaver's skillful hand.
So the threads of gold and silver in
the pattern He has planned.
-----Enoch J. Smith
