Dean Aird Metz was born March 28, 1936, in Pittsburgh, Penn. to Clyde Vernon and Eleanor (Bardsley Aird) Metz. He graduated from Langley High School in Pittsburgh, Penn., class of 1954. He earned his BS-Physical Science and MS-Physics degrees from Arizona State (Tempe, Ariz.) in 1960 and 1965 respectively. He continued his post graduate studies at the University of South Dakota (Vermillion, S.D.).
Dean began his career teaching high school physics in Superior, Ariz. Dean met Sandra Lee Shrader at a National Science Foundation Math Institute at the University of Omaha in 1964. Dean married Sandra on Aug. 14, 1965, in Ewing. The couple lived in Montrose, Calif. and Huntington Beach, Calif. before moving to Wayne. Dean was a Professor of Physics for 36 years at Wayne State College and retired in 2003.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and was the chair of the Pastor Nominating Committee. He was a member of the American Institute of Physics, the National Education Association / Nebraska State Education Association, the Masonic Lodge, the Wayne Energy Task Force and Wayne Board of Health. He was a Boy Scout, an Eagle Scout and continued working with Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops for many years. His multitude of interests included education, technology, football, woodworking, telling stories, and most of all his family.
