Funeral services were held Thursday morning at the Providence Baptist church eighteen miles south of Monticello for Rayborn Alexander, 35-year-old farmer of the Verna community, who was found dead at his home Wednesday morning. Final rites were conducted by the Rev. B. T. Bishop of Ruth. Interment was made in the Providence church cemetery.
The body of Alexander was found lying across his bed by his sister, Miss Byron Alexander, who lived in the home with him. According to Sheriff S. J. Givens of this place, who was called to the home to investigate the death, Alexander is believed to have killed himself with a single barrel sixteen-guage shot gun. The gun was on the bed beside the body. The gun report was heard by Miss Alexander who was out of the house at the time.
Alexander, who was unmarried, made his home with a brother, Ralph Alexander, and a sister, Miss Byren Alexander. Two other brothers, Wood and Bart Alexander, live in the southern part of the county. Two other sisters, Miss Tina Alexander of Verna and a married sister in Florida survive. The Alexanders lived near the Lawrence and Pike county line in the extreme end of Lawrence County.
