Al worked as a police reporter for the Boston Herald. He died of pneumonia he caught while reporting on a fire. He almost died when he was pinned under a truck he was riding on while escorting an explosives train in France during the war. He was given up for dead, but somehow pulled through. He then came home and returned to the Herald.

The headstone is located off of St. Patricks Ave in Section D. 2nd row from the back, 4th in from the right.
He's buried with his sisters Agnes McCarthy and Edyth and Michael Gibbons. Plots 943-944
