Dorothy Young was born in Saxony, Germany, Oct. 30, 1845. Came to Wisconsin in the early sixties and was married to Andrew Craig in 1864. Three children were born to this union: Emma Mickelson of Selby, S. D., Wm. F. Craig of Riverside Township and Mary Pasco of Owosso, Michigan. Andrew Craig died in 1872.

She was afterwards married to J. H. VanRiper. Ten children were born to them, the oldest of whom was Mrs. Joseph Hanrahan, who died in October 1892; Minnie A. Neuman of American Falls, Idaho; John H. Jr., of Edmonton, Can.; Mrs. Wm. Gallugher of Henry Township; Mrs. Bert Barden of Columbia, S. D., and one son, Charles, died in infancy.

Mrs. VanRiper died at her home in Henry Township on Saturday, Nov. 15, and funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church by Dr. J. S. Butt on Tuesday afternoon, and the body was gently laid to rest beside that of her husband, the late J. H. VanRiper, in Groton Union Cemetery.

Another name is added to the long list of splendid pioneer women who performed well their allotted portion of life's work before being called hence to join the silent majority.
