CLINTON, N.C. —
James Edward Garza, 90, past resident of the Equality and Ridgway area died on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011 in Clinton, N.C.
Jim, as most knew him, was born in Equality, on Jan. 29, 1921, to the late Charles and Julia (Robbins) Garza. Jim served his country in the Navy and retired from Inland Steel as a boilermaker. He was Catholic by faith. Jim loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He loved to visit with friends and family and was always like to joke and cutup. He was a good father, husband, grandfather, brother and friend. Jim will be greatly missed.
Jim is survived by his wife, Edna of Clinton, N.C.; a daughter, Virginia (Wayne) Brown of Georgia; two sons, Vernon (Mattie) Garza of Schererville, Ind. and Carroll (Carol) Lewis of Hobart, Ind.; one brother, Jack Garza of Ohio; seven grandchildren, Monica, Russell, Theresa, Diona, Larry, Babette and Kristina along with three stepgrandchildren, Thomas, Gregory and Jose; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Helen; two daughters, Roxy Ann and Dorothy Ann; two brothers, Vernon and Johnnie Garza; a sister, Elizabeth Meyers; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Garza; and a great-grandchild, Matthew Garza.
Services for Jim will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Ridgway where the family will receive friends after 11 a.m. Fr. Steven Beatty will officiate and interment will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Equality.
