Eric Cannon Pollei
1934-2011
After a long and valiant battle with cancer, Eric Cannon Pollei passed away restfully November 8th, 2011. Eric, the oldest of four boys, was born December 6th, 1934 to Eric Charles Pollei and Emily Cannon Pollei. He was raised in the family home on 76 S Street and attended Bryant Jr. High, East High School, and the University of Utah - majoring in Business.
Eric was called in 1955 to serve in the West German Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In 1957 he was employed by Meadow Gold Dairy in the Hawaiian Islands for one year. Later he worked for Linder and Wood Trucking and through this operation he became acquainted with the Volvo-White Motor Company. Eric had a very long and accomplished career working in sales and business development for Volvo-White in Portland, Oregon and was consistently a top performer within the company.
Prior to moving to Portland, he married Janet Anne Gee, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple by Harold B. Lee on June 14th, 1963. Eric raised his family in Beaverton, Oregon for 25 years. It was during this time he held many community and church related positions including PTA President, School Advisory Board Member, Stake Clerk, High Priest Group Leader, Young Men's President, and Scout Activities Coordinator. Eric enjoyed arranging and organizing family gatherings. He was a true people person and an adventurer at heart.
Eric battled leukemia for over 10 years. Known as "superman," he amazed the cancer center doctors beating their prognosis. He passed at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital, a place he considered a second home with their wonderful and caring staff. During the last five years of his life he was a dedicated temple worker at the Salt Lake Temple.
Eric was preceded in death by his parents, son Michael, and daughter Camille. He is survived by his wife Janet, son Douglas, daughter-in-law Kimberly, grandsons Collin and Miles, and brothers, Paul, Robert, and David Pollei.
